Michael, Thx for this important reality check on Elon Musk, the bloke so many folks—all of whom should’ve known better and I’m sure in many cases probably did—saw as something of a caped crusader who rescued free speech on social media. Like far more prominent voices (Whitney Webb and David Icke come to mind), for any number of reasons I’ve always had my suspicions about this bloke’s bona fides, even before his purchase of Twitter.
Yet clearly there can (or should) be little doubt that we have all been played with more aplomb than Jimi Hendrix’s Stratocaster at the top of the great man’s game. Those who continue to genuinely buy his free speech schtick and defend the man’s much touted ‘libertarian’ virtues against all available evidence to the contrary (your assessment above being further grist to this mill), needs a checkup from the neck-up.
A couple of points to be made here if I may. For me the Israel connection here is key. I too have been a prominent critic of the Rogue State, and my posts are frequently shadow banned. And I’m only a small fish in a larger sea. There can be no doubt on this point: as it’s wont to do, Israel is tightening its grip on control of the narrative—in this case said “grip” would appear to be upon Muskie’s wedding tackle (metaphorically speaking)—and they cannot afford any further exposure of its crimes against humanity to reach a larger cohort of people who have hitherto been supportive of their cause, however the latter might have been defined.
Of course this still leaves open the question as to whether Musk was/is remains committed to free speech, and to what degree this purge of prominent accounts is fuelled by pressure from Israel and its assorted supporters and simps. I will simply say this: One cannot IMHO support Israel in any way shape or form, and still claim bragging rights on being “America First™️” or being in the MAGA™️ camp. The disconnects herein are as wide as they’re obvious and telling.
Herein one is reminded of a memorable line by F Scott Fitzgerald which goes like this: ‘The test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas in the mind at the same time, and still retain the ability to function.’ It’s uncertain if FSF intended to convey a measure of tongue in cheek irony by making such an observation, in or out of its original context. For the purposes of this exercise, I’m assuming he did. 😉😇👍🙏
I'm glad that people are upset about controversial accounts being summarily demonetized or banned. That's a worthy cause. But that activity, as bad as it is, is very small and official. The real censorship on X is done secretly, to millions of replies and millions of users, every minute of every day, for months and years on end. Millions of innocuous replies were secretly hidden on every single day of 2024.
Nobody seems to want to face the true situation on X. Everyone wants to look at the activity being done with a teaspoon when the real crime is being done with a backhoe and a bulldozer and a dump truck.
